Access Statement for Ludlow Mascall Centre

This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors.

Introduction

Ludlow Mascall Centre is a converted Victorian school situated 5 minutes from the town centre of the rural market town of Ludlow. The Centre is placed half way up one of the hills into the town though access on site is level. The Centre has 7 twin rooms, 1 family room and 1 single accessible room. This room is suitable for wheelchair users and has a wet room and a call system to a neighbouring room for carer.

Pre-Arrival

  • Ludlow railway station, Station Drive Ludlow, SY8 2PQ is 10 minutes walk away. Station Drive rises steeply to the top of town.
  • 2 accessible taxi services are available locally. Annette's Taxis 01584 878787 and Ludlow Taxi's 01584 876666
  • Local buses are 435 from Shrewsbury, 192/292 from Kidderminster and 492 from Hereford The bus stop is directly outside the Centre entrance.

Car Parking and Arrival
  • Free parking is available on site with wide bays for accessible parking next to the main entrance
  • The car park is tarmaced with good lighting.
  • There are a choose of steps or ramp into the building but no handrail (at present)
  • The entrance door opens inwards manually
  • There is also a ramped entrance into the accommodation wing
  • Assistance with luggage can be arranged either on booking or on arrival.

 

Main Entrance / Reception / Welcome Area
  • Reception is on the ground floor and has level access throughout.
  • There is a short pile carpet throughout with good lighting.
  • Seating is available both in the entrance lobby and the reception
  • Separate access is available to the accommodation block when the centre is closed

 

Bedrooms
  • The Centre has 1 fully accessible single room.
  • It is on the first floor, accessed via a lift, and has a wet room with shower
  • Grab rails provided in both bedroom and shower room
  • All rooms have en-suite shower rooms
  • One family room has twin/double bed with 2 bunk beds
  • Tea / coffee making facilities supplied
  • The fire alarms are audio/visual

 

Bathrooms, Shower-rooms and Toilets (Ensuite or Shared)
  • Accessible wet room has shower chair and grab rails, toilet and wash basin
  • All en-suite bathrooms fitted with shower, toilet and hand basin.
  • An emergency call system to the next room is available for carer

 

Public Areas - Halls, Stairs, Landings, Corridors
  • All access areas are well lit with sensory lighting in corridors of the bedroom area
  • Wide doorways and corridors, most with natural light but good lighting where required

 

Public Areas - Lounges, Lobbies
  • Lounge area is provided for residents and has a remote controlled TV with freeview channels.
  • Seating is armchairs with occasional tables
  • Armless chairs can be provided on request
  • Outside private courtyard can be accessed from the lounge area with accessible ramp to the car park
  • All public areas of the centre are wide, open and well lit.

 

Restaurant/Dining Room, Bar & Bar area
  • The dining room is on a level access from the lounge area and the rest of the building
  • All chairs and tables are free standing and readily moveable as required
  • Service is direct to tables

 

Leisure Facilities
  • A small private courtyard is available for residents use, with ramp to car park facilities

 

Conference and Meeting Rooms
  • All our meeting rooms are on the ground floor with level access.
  • Flooring is short pile carpeting throughout with laminate flooring in two rooms
  • A hearing loop system is provided in three of the rooms
  • All rooms have good natural light and wide doorways
